Big Name Breweries Have Unclaimed Cash, Just in Time for the Great American Beer Festival

Oct. 10, 2025 (DENVER) — Colorado’s beverage industry is known for crafting great beer, but some of its biggest names have something else brewing: unclaimed cash.

Just in time for the Great American Beer Festival, the Colorado Department of the Treasury is encouraging breweries and beer events to claim lost cash through the Great Colorado Payback.

“Unclaimed property belongs to the people and organizations of Colorado, including some of our most beloved breweries,” said Colorado State Treasurer Dave Young. “We want to get these funds back to where they belong, whether that’s to families, businesses, or nonprofits. Reuniting rightful owners with these dollars is always worth a toast.”

Anheuser-Busch, Breckenridge Brewery, Coors Distributing Company, New Belgium Brewing, Oskar Blues Brewery, and even the Great American Beer Festival itself are among the local legends on the list.

Unclaimed property can include terminated insurance policies, forgotten utility deposits, or uncashed checks. Across Colorado, more than $2 billion in unclaimed assets are waiting to be returned to individuals, businesses, and nonprofits.

“Every year we see new businesses and organizations pop up in the database,” said Unclaimed Property Director Bianca Gardelli. “If even the state’s best-known breweries have lost property, it's a good reminder for everyone to take a look and claim what’s yours.”
