It’s ‘Scary Easy’ to Check for Lost Assets through The Great Colorado Payback
Oct. 30, 2024 (DENVER) A frightening number of people have yet to claim property through The Great Colorado Payback this Halloween season.
The Colorado Department of the Treasury maintains a database of 7.6 million individuals and entities for whom the State of Colorado holds property or cash—including some of cinema’s most chilling characters. Carrie White, Jack Torrance and Jason Voorhees are just a few of the spooky names on the list.
“It’s all treat, no trick with The Great Colorado Payback: We want to reunite you with uncashed checks, unpaid wages and other assets that are rightfully yours,” said Treasurer Young. “It takes just 30 seconds to check if you have money waiting to be claimed on our website. The process is scary easy!”
Among dozens of Halloween-themed names, Treasurer Young revealed his favorites:
- Carrie White
- Frankenstein Brothers
- Jack Torrance
- Jason Voorhees
- Michael Myers
- Norman Bates
- Pennywise Investment Fund
- Scummy Mummy Tattoo
- Von Dracula
- Zombie Ink Tattoo
Each year companies transfer millions in assets to the Colorado Department of the Treasury when they cannot locate the original owners, which include individuals, companies, nonprofit organizations, schools and other entities. The current unclaimed property fund exceeds $736 million.
To help streamline the process, The Great Colorado Payback now automatically returns some claims without additional paperwork. Since Treasurer Young took office in 2019, the program has given back nearly $258 million in unclaimed property through 221,000 claims.
