Great Colorado Payback Returned $97.5 Million in Lost Assets Last Year

Jan. 29, 2026 (DENVER) —Colorado State Treasurer Dave Young is urging Coloradans to reclaim their missing money with the Great Colorado Payback ahead of National Unclaimed Property Day this Sunday.

“From higher grocery bills to expensive car insurance payments, families across Colorado are feeling the squeeze of rising costs,” said Treasurer Young. “That’s why it’s the perfect time to check for unclaimed property at GreatCOPayback.com. The search process is fast, secure, and completely free—and you might find some extra cash when you need it most.”

Treasurer Young and Governor Jared Polis declared February 1 as Unclaimed Property Day in Colorado. The celebration comes as the program marks another milestone year. In 2025, the Great Colorado Payback returned a record $97.5 million in unclaimed property, resolving more than 80,000 claims.

Each year, companies transfer millions in assets to the Colorado Department of the Treasury when they cannot contact the original owners, including individuals, companies, nonprofit organizations and schools. The Great Colorado Payback currently holds $2.5 billion in unclaimed property owed to nearly 17 million individuals and entities.

Coloradans can check for missing money in three easy steps:

  1. Visit GreatCOPayback.com and click Get Started.
  2. Enter your name, city and/or zip code in the search tool.
  3. Review the results and claim the property(ies) that match your information.

The Department continues to make the claims process faster and easier. Last year, the Great Colorado Payback automatically returned more than $8 million to claimants without the need for additional paperwork or proof of ownership. It takes just 10 days to process the average claim, well below the statutory requirement of 90 days.
