Great Colorado Payback Return Helps Food Bank for Larimer County Expand Hunger Relief Efforts

Feb. 26, 2026 (LOVELAND) —Colorado State Treasurer Dave Young visited the Food Bank for Larimer County on Wednesday to highlight how the state’s unclaimed property program, the Great Colorado Payback, supports organizations and strengthens communities across Colorado.
“This program is not just about recovering lost dollars or forgotten treasures,” said Treasurer Young. “It is about restoring resources that organizations like this one can immediately put to work and meet real needs.”
The Food Bank for Larimer County serves tens of thousands of neighbors each year and acts as a regional hub for food distribution and community support. During the visit, Treasurer Young toured the food bank’s facility and presented a ceremonial check for $7,470, representing the unclaimed property funds recovered for the organization through the Great Colorado Payback.
“The unclaimed property we recovered is equivalent to providing 11,700 meals to our community,” said Angela Benson, Finance Director for The Food Bank for Larimer County. “To put another way, as FBLC expects to distribute over 19 million pounds of food this year, these additional funds will allow us to exceed 20 million pounds of food distributed to achieve our mission.”
Treasurer Young also recognized the Unclaimed Property Division and the Great Colorado Payback team for their work connecting Coloradans and community organizations with missing funds. In 2025, the Great Colorado Payback returned more than $97 million in lost assets through 80,000 claims. Residents are encouraged to check for unclaimed property for themselves, family members, and local nonprofits.
